Details:

Type: New floor Extension
Location: Peckham, London
Size: 9 new apartments
Status: Completed

The existing corner building was already showing, at the roof level, cues of a possible not-builted third level with a false facade and structural elements popping out from the roof slab. Above to the commercial ground floor level, two gyms were occupying the available spaces.

Bellis | Architects, after a deep reshaping of the first floor level layout gained better spaces for the gyms, studied a new story extension achieving 9 new flats accommodation. The new floor has no impact at all on the main elevation, using the existing false facade and its windows. A fair setback and a cladded shell gives clear distinction to the added volume respecting the existing brick wall. The new floor scheme is pushed on two sides of the existing building, avoiding any impact on the rear gardens of near properties. The extension is provided with a green sedum roof.
